Hi, my name is Leah.
My work is to bring fun, interest and amusement into children’s lives when they read.
I live in Milton Keynes, UK, but have grown up in various towns around the UK, after starting my life in Dubai, U.A.E.
I am an illustrator and Graphic Designer with twenty years experience. Drawing is my passion – especially drawing from the imagination. I love bringing stories to life on the paper and channelling people’s imaginations.
My favorite books growing up were Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak and anything Roald Dahl. When my children were younger, I very much enjoyed reading stories to them written by Julia Donaldson with half the credit going to the fantastic illustrations by Axel Scheffler.
After reading many different children’s stories to my boys, a question always sat in my mind; what makes a good children’s book? We are bombarded by choice but what makes certain books go down in history as being great?
I had spent many years of my life as a Graphic Designer but didn’t feel completely fulfilled with this line of work. However, I knew I needed to do something creative. What I discovered is that when I focussed on my skills; good imagination and illustrating, I would lose time lost in my passion.
I hope this websites helps, inspires and supports as well as attracts the same back to it. Please feel free to leave comments with any advice on what it takes to become a succesful children’s book illustrator. I’d really love to hear from you.
